What are the benefits of using quartz-sand-based wear-resistant flooring in underground garages, factory buildings, workshops, and other similar spaces?
The wear-resistant, hardened surface made of diamond is commonly known as diamond-abrasive wear-resistant flooring. Since its introduction in the 1970s, it has rapidly gained popularity in Europe and North America, emerging as the ideal replacement for terrazzo flooring. By the late 1980s, wear-resistant flooring had become the preferred choice in developed countries.
Wear-resistant materials are selected from ground-hardening agents, which consist of non-metallic mineral aggregates, metallic mineral aggregates, and special additives. The quartz-sand wear-resistant floor is made from carefully selected aggregates with a specific particle-size gradation. Carborundum wear-resistant aggregate Composed of high-strength cement, special admixtures, pigments, and polymers, wear-resistant flooring boasts high surface hardness, high density, excellent wear resistance, dust-free performance, resistance to delamination, cost-effectiveness, versatility, and a wide range of applications. Monolithic wear-resistant flooring eliminates the conventional practice of constructing the concrete base layer and the wear-resistant top layer separately, thereby eliminating common quality defects such as cracking and hollowing caused by poor bonding between the two layers. This approach simplifies the construction process, shortens the construction schedule, and reduces labor costs.
The quartz-sand wear-resistant flooring is installed using a dry-spreading method, in which the abrasive material is evenly distributed over the concrete surface during the initial setting stage. With the use of specialized construction tools, a dense, colored wear-resistant top layer can be formed directly on the underlying concrete. Typically available in four colors—natural cement, gray, red, and green—this system offers excellent adhesion to the base concrete, a highly compact surface, superior wear resistance, and strong impact resistance. It is widely suitable for applications requiring enhanced surface durability, such as shopping centers, large supermarkets, sidewalks, parking lots, production workshops, machine-repair shops, and warehouses, and can be used both indoors and outdoors. Even under prolonged exposure to moist conditions, its performance remains unaffected. Based on the required thickness of the wear-resistant layer (1.5–3.5 mm), the recommended application rate is 5–7 kg per square meter. The key technical specifications of the quartz-sand-based wear-resistant flooring system are: 28-day flexural strength of 12 MPa, 28-day compressive strength of 85 MPa, surface hardness of 2.8 mm (measured as indentation diameter), and a wear-resistance ratio of 300%. Its advantages include high load-bearing capacity, exceptional wear resistance, long service life, and excellent cost-effectiveness.
