Common and simple methods to identify the quality of HP cellulose:
1. Pure HP cellulose is fluffy in visual state and has a small bulk density in the range of 0.3-0.4 g/ml; adulterated HP cellulose has better fluidity and heavier hand feeling, which is obviously different from the appearance of genuine products.
2. The whiteness of pure HP cellulose is good, indicating that the raw materials selected for production are pure and the reaction is more thorough and free of impurities. Compared with foreign related cellulose ether products, it can be seen that the whiteness of a good cellulose ether product is always better than that of domestic second-line brands.
3. The pure HP cellulose aqueous solution is clear and has high light transmittance, and the water retention rate is ≥ 97%; the adulterated HP cellulose aqueous solution is turbid, and the water retention rate is difficult to meet the requirements. The aqueous solution has good light transmittance, which indicates that the product contains less insoluble substances and high content of active ingredients.
4. Pure HP cellulose should not smell the taste of ammonia, starch and alcohols; adulterated HP cellulose can often smell all kinds of taste, even if tasteless, will feel heavy.
5. Pure HP cellulose powder is fibrous under a microscope or magnifying glass; adulterated HP cellulose can be observed as granular solids or crystals under a microscope or magnifying glass.
6. A simple test method for the ash content of cellulose ether is to weigh one to two grams of cellulose ether, ignite with a lighter, and weigh the remaining ash from the combustion of cellulose ether. When the ash/cellulose ether is ≥ 5%, the quality of cellulose ether is basically unqualified. (This method sometimes has errors. First, the manufacturer leaves the factory and adds the specified products for the customers. Products suitable for specific customers; Second, agents or manufacturers add flammable substances with lower ash content when adulterating.)
7. Some manufacturers use a small amount of C cellulose compounded into hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose ether, and C cellulose aqueous solution and tin, silver, aluminum, lead, iron, copper and some heavy metals meet, precipitation reaction will occur; C cellulose aqueous solution and calcium, magnesium, salt coexistence, will not produce precipitation, but will reduce the viscosity of C cellulose aqueous solution.
8. Conditions allow direct testing of cellulose ether aqueous solution viscosity and low content of cellulose ether mortar water retention rate of comparison.
