Vitrified tiles (enhanced polished tiles, is a hard, dense tiles) due to the surface smooth as a mirror, shiny and transparent, high hardness, not easy to scratch and damage and convenient construction, has been widely used in decoration.
However, due to the lack of understanding of its performance characteristics, the traditional cement pasting method is still adopted. One year later, after the temperature changes in winter and summer, the phenomenon of empty drum and falling off is common. From the beginning of a local brick empty drum, it is unstoppable to develop into a large area of empty drum, and then it falls off. The potential safety hazard seriously affects the quality of the real estate. In addition, the overall repair of hollow wall tiles will cause great economic losses. If the method is improper, even the overall repair cannot completely avoid the re-empty drum.
 
Analysis of the causes of hollow drum shedding of vitrified bricks
 
1. The investigation shows that the hollow drum part of the wall brick mainly occurs between the wall brick and its cement bonding layer. The bonding layer and the wall brick fall off, and the hollow drum of one or two bricks develops into the whole hollow drum and fall off. The main reason is that the brick and cement bonding strength and durability is poor, resulting in empty drum phenomenon.
 
2. Compared with ordinary glazed tiles, vitrified tiles have low water absorption, the standard water absorption is E≦ 0.5%, and the standard for ceramic tiles is E≦ 10%, so the sticking force is far weaker than that of ceramic tiles, which requires the bonding material to have high bonding strength. Such as the use of high water absorption of ceramic tiles, the use of the same construction process, the phenomenon of empty drum is less;
        
3. The specifications of ceramic tiles are getting larger and larger. 600 × 600mm wall tiles are used in the lobby and basement lobby on the first floor. The specifications of ceramic tiles are large, and volume changes are easy to occur under the condition of thermal expansion and cold contraction. The shrinkage expansion rate of ceramic tiles is about 4 × 10-6, and the shrinkage rate of concrete is more than twice that of ceramic tiles. When the cement shrinkage, ceramic tiles and the ground shrinkage rate is not consistent, two different objects are prone to separation, so the requirements of the bonding material to have flexibility;
        
4, vitrified brick material strength is high, sensitive to temperature changes, temperature difference is not synchronized, and the thermal expansion coefficient of cement is different, there is a temperature difference stress after large-size ceramic tiles are pasted, seasonal temperature difference oscillation will cause the bonding strength to decrease, damage the bonding strength of the brick base and the base, resulting in wall brick hollow drum;
        
5, not strictly in accordance with the requirements of the specification construction, construction cement due to improper preservation and failure of cement mortar overdue and other factors, reduce the final setting strength of the bonding layer, so that the effective bonding force between the wall brick and the substrate is greatly reduced;
 
6, the wall plastering verticality is poor, the wall brick construction of the bonding layer of local super thick, the overall thickness is uneven, but also one of the factors leading to the wall brick hollowing;
 
7. When the strength of the rough decoration plastering layer is low, sometimes the hollow drum occurs between the rough decoration plastering layer and the base layer, and such phenomena also exist, but relatively few.
 
To sum up, the main part of the occurrence of empty drum in the wall brick and adhesive layer between the two kinds of material characteristics of vitrified brick (water absorption rate, high strength) and cement bonding layer is not synchronized is the cause of the wall brick empty drum.
